This week we caught up with Newcastle Jets W-League Captain Ariane Hingst
This week we caught up with Newcastle Jets W-League Captain Ariane Hingst, to find out how the team are doing after their disappointing loss to Sydney FC and how preparations are going for their game against Canberra this weekend.
Hingst: Sometimes it is easy to forget that our team is very young and games like this do happen from time to time. We will learn from this experience and it will only make our team stronger.
Question: What do you put the loss down to?
Hingst: Our performance in the second half of really let us down on the weekend. We were strong during the first 45 minutes but after half time the pressure placed on us by Sydney was too much and we made mistakes, which you can-t afford to do against teams like that.
Question: How did it feel to have such an impressive crowd watching you play on Saturday?
Hingst: I want to thank everyone who came along to watch us play last week, it is such a great feeling playing in front of such a strong crowd. Our Members and fans were so supportive and continued to cheer even when we were down 3-points.
I really hope the Members and fans will come back to watch us play Perth Glory on the 26th of November. We really want to show everyone that we can play better than we did against Sydney
Question: How have the team recovered and are there any injury concerns going into week 5?
Hingst: It looks like all the girls came out of last weekend-s game unscathed, which is great and our legs are feeling really fresh. We are ready for a big fight against Canberra, who are yet to lose a game this season.
Question: You have a tough came this weekend against Canberra, how is the team preparing for this game?
Hingst:This week we have been training hard and are preparing well for this weekend-s game against Canberra. While we did discuss our loss to Sydney, we are not dwelling on it and have moved on, it is now time to concentrate on Saturday-s game.
Question: How are you enjoying living in Newcastle?
Hingst: I am really enjoying my time in Newcastle and the Jets are a great Club to be a part of. Even though we have a young team I am confident we will achieve a lot this season.
Question: When not in training what do you enjoy doing?
Hingst: I been surfing and I am excited to tell you that I rocked my first wave while surfing yesterday. Thanks to my teaches Chez (Cheryl Salisbury) and Renaye. Soon I will be the new surfing queen of Newcastle and I am hoping my roomie Bubs (Melissa Barbieri) join me in taking on the waves.
Question:Are you enjoying playing for the Jets and how does the W-League compare to playing in Germany?
Hingst:The W-League competition is not as big as what I have previously played in back in Germany but I think it has so much potential and with the support of Clubs like the Jets, it will only continue to grow.
