The Newcastle Jets are thrilled to announce that 16-year-old Will Dobson has signed a two-year scholarship deal.
Dobson, who plays in central midfield is a local junior, started playing for Belmont FC in his early ages before going on to play for Weston Bears before signing with the Newcastle Jets Academy playing in the U15’s.
Last year, Dobson was selected for the Australian Schoolboys side which toured the UK and the Netherlands where he was named player of the tour.
Dobson was also named the Newcastle Jets Academy player of the year for 2023.
Dobson is excited to sign his first scholarship deal.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity that the Club has given me. Signing a scholarship with the Jets is something I have been working towards for a long time. And after the year that I have had with the Youth Team, I’m excited to join the A-League squad and see what the season brings.”
Newcastle Jets head Coach Rob Stanton said.
“I’m pleased to be able to bring Will into the A-League men’s set-up. He has shown he has the qualities to make the step up and I look forward to seeing him work hard to continue to grow and make the transition into A-League football.
It’s pleasing that we have some great young talent coming through here in Newcastle at the Jets and Will is another example of that.”
Dobson will wear the number 28 jersey.
