Newcastle Jets head coach Gary van Egmond believes the signing of Zenon Caravella adds further depth to the Jets’ squad.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets head coach Gary van Egmond believes the signing of Zenon Caravella adds further depth to the Jets- squad.
Van Egmond said that one of the key reasons for signing Caravella was to ensure that competition for places in the Jets- line-up remained at a high level.
“It gives us more depth in that midfield area and as a coach I want to have good competition within all positions. With Zenon coming in, he provides that,” van Egmond said.
“It-s about creating that depth, creating that competition and creating a culture. I thought training today was very spritely when you consider the fact it was a conditioning day.
“You bring someone else in and it changes the mood a little bit and it was really good.”
Van Egmond said that Caravella brings a complete and well-rounded skill-set to the Jets, that will add spark to their midfield.
“I-ve seen enough quality from him to think that we-re going to get really good value out of him, van Egmond said.
“Technically he-s very good, he works hard, he gets on the ball and he gets your team playing.
“His technical ability is very good in regards to using both feet, he can keep the ball under pressure very, very well and he-s smart with his distribution.
“I thought it was a good acquisition to bring someone like that in and we think we can make him better and improve him as an individual, which will then mean he becomes more effective for the Jets.”
