The Newcastle Jets today confirm that Labinot Haliti has re-signed with the club for a period of 2 years. Haliti is currently under contract with the club as an injury replacement for Marko Jesic, however this new deal will keep the 23-year-old on board until the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.
The Kosovo-born striker is enjoying his second stint with the Hunter based club after departing for a European sojourn in 2007 which saw him play in Croatia, Albania and Poland. In his first game back in the gold of Newcastle, Haliti came off the bench to score a late equaliser against Melbourne Victory in a 1-all draw at Etihad Stadium last month.
Equally adept as an attacking midfielder or second striker, and possessing superb technical ability, Haliti is a perfect fit for the club-s future plans.
“Labinot has proved during his time at the club that he is a dedicated, talented, hard-working footballer with precisely the kind of professional approach that we admire in a player,” CEO John Tsatsimas explained this afternoon.
“He exemplifies what we are looking to build with regards to our squad here at the Jets over the next few years. Looking forward, Labinot-s re-signing is certainly a positive sign and shows our intention of retaining the players that we want to build around,” he said.
Haliti and his Jets teammates will take on Adelaide United on Monday, 5 October at Hindmarsh Stadium.
