In form Newcastle Jets attacker Miloš Trifunović says he has been settling into life in the region well is and looking to add to his three goals so far this season when the Jets meet Western Sydney Wanderers at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.
“This is my first time in Australia,” Trifunović said via an interpreter on Thursday. “It is a nice country [and] good for me as a player and to bring up my family.”
“I feel well … I’m happy to be here and [to] work with the trainers and players.”
Trifunović said his teammates, particularly Croatian midfielder Mateo Poljak and Serbian Enver Alivodić have assisted his assimilation into the team.
“It is not easy to come to a new team straight away and show your best,” he explained.
“They [Poljak and Alivodic] are both helping me out a lot, especially Enver because I played with him before.
“In Australia football is played much faster and very offensive [therefore] I believe it will take me a bit more time to adjust.
“Obviously you have to be accepted by the team members and also to show that you are progressing.
“I am very happy that I have been accepted and positive that we have good communication.
“I hope that our cooperation will be better from week to week,” he said.
Trifunović, who scored in the Round 1 win against Wellington Phoenix and twice in last week’s’ 3-2 comeback win over Melbourne City, warned the Wanderers that there is more to come from him and his teammates.
“A player can always play better,” Trifunović said.
“Every player has to improve, not only me but all the players.
“My role in the team as a striker is to score goals and if a striker doesn’t score goals he might feel nervous but everything is alright [at the moment].
“If I give the goals and the team doesn’t win it doesn’t mean as much but as the team has been winning I feel much better.”
Should Newcastle Jets secure at least a point on Saturday against Western Sydney Wanderers it will be the club’s best start to a Hyundai A-League season, bettering the 2012/13 campaign.
Nevertheless, Trifunović said the team were only focused taking maximum points.
“[As] we are playing at home we are only thinking of a win,” Trifunović said.
“My inspiration is that we stay in the top three and get better from week to week.”
