The Hunter region is buzzing with excitement this term, as nearly 9,000 students from more than 90 local schools take part in the Newcastle Jets’ Jets:LEARN program.
Run in partnership with Greater Bank, the program encourages students to stay active through football, develop important life skills, and connect with their sporting heroes.
Adding to the excitement, 20 lucky Hunter schools involved in Jets:LEARN are currently welcoming Newcastle Jets A-League Men’s and Women’s players for fun, hands-on football clinics.
These visits also give students the chance to hear directly from the players about what it takes to become a professional footballer, while inspiring the next generation and encouraging them to cheer on the Jets at home games this season.
Jets:LEARN has become a favourite among schools across Northern New South Wales, with more than 30,000 students taking part statewide in the program across the last three years alone.
Matt Starr, General Manager – Customer & Community at Newcastle Jets, said the player visits are always a highlight of the program.
“It’s great to see so many schools throughout Northern NSW getting involved in the Jets:LEARN program each year. Seeing the excitement on the students faces when they interact with our players is what makes Jets:LEARN so special. We hope that the program inspires young people to have confidence, work as a team, stay active, and above all make sure they enjoy themselves along the way.”
NGM Group Head of Sustainability and Community, Kirrah McClelland, of which Greater Bank is a part of, said the partnership brings meaningful benefits to the community.
“This program goes beyond football – it’s about empowering students with skills that will serve them for life. We’re thrilled to support Jets:LEARN in the Hunter region and provide these unique opportunities for local schools.”
The program’s four-week curriculum is carefully designed to align with the NSW Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education (PDHPE) syllabus. Through a mix of football skills training and lessons in confidence, teamwork, and resilience, students are gaining valuable skills both on and off the field.
Jets:LEARN, fuelled by Greater Bank, is open to all primary schools across Newcastle and regional New South Wales at no cost.
Schools that register receive access to a comprehensive curriculum, video content, and supporting resources to enhance classroom engagement – all available online.
Winning schools also receive Greater Bank sports packs, including soccer balls, cones, and other equipment, ensuring students can continue their football journey beyond the program.
