The Jets ripped into the game from kickoff, instantly taking control of the ball and creating chances, with starting debutant Will Dobson firing an early shot straight at Oli Sail. Clayton Taylor almost scored just minutes later, as he beat two defenders before having his shot blocked.
The early dominance soon paid off, with Ben Gibson winning the ball out on the left side of the pitch, before finding Eli Adams in space just outside the box. Adams turned on the ball before calmly slotting his shot past the outstretched Oli Sail, giving Newcastle the lead just 11 minutes into the game.
Eli Adams had a chance to double his tally, as Ben Gibson’s shot deflected up into the sky. Adams jumped clear of his defender, winning the header. Unfortunately, his shot was slightly off-target as it struck the post He soon had another chance hit the woodwork, with his shot from the edge of the box thundering into the crossbar, before falling to Daniel Wilmering, who couldn’t direct his effort towards goal.
Just over a half-hour into the match, Adam Taggart found himself in space inside the box. His effort towards goal struck the hand of Daniel Wilmering, leaving the referee with no choice but to award the penalty. The experienced Glory front-man made no mistake from the spot, slotting his shot into the back of the net, making the score 1-1 with less than ten minutes left in the first half.
Youngster Will Dobson had another chance minutes before the break, as the ball deflected off of him onto the crossbar. The ball fell back to him with an open net, but he couldn’t quite squeeze his effort into goal as it was cleared off of the line. The scores remained equal going into the break, with positive signs from the Jets as they dominated the half.
The second half started, and shortly after, new signing Kota Mizunuma was introduced for Will Dobson. In the 61st minute, Lachie Rose and debutant Charles M’mombwa were brought on for Eli Adams and Lachlan Bayliss. Kota almost made an instant impact, as his delivery from a corner found the head of Lachie Rose, whose headed effort just cleared the crossbar.
Whilst the second half began to even out, the Jets still created plenty of chances. Kosta Grozos almost found Ben Gibson in the box with a floated pass, but it was slightly overhit, with Oli Sail being able to claim it. A Ben Gibson backheel found Clayton Taylor in the box, but unfortunately his shot sailed over the crossbar.
Clayton Taylor was able to put us in the lead in the 78th minute. Ben Gibson’s pass deflected off of the Perth defenders legs, bouncing in front of Clayton Taylor who was able to turn and fire his shot into the bottom corner.
Another Kota corner caused havoc for the Glory, as Aquilina was able to volley an effort towards goal, which was saved by Oli Sail. Perth Glory were soon able to grab an equaliser, as a goalmouth scramble fell to Lachie Wales who stabbed home from inside the 6-yard box, making the score 2-2 with just over five minutes plus injury time remaining. Kota continued to create chaos with his corners, as he found Wellisol from the corner, who couldn’t keep his effort below the bar.
Ryan Scott, as he has all year, came up clutch with a massive save in injury time, saving Anasmo’s shot from close range. Full time came moments later, with the score remaining at 2-2. Plenty of positives to come from the draw, with eye-catching debuts for Kota Mizunuma and Charles M’Mombwa.
