Western United defeated the Jets 6-0 in today’s clash at home, with the Jets going down to ten players early in the match.
The match began with both sides showing intensity early on, with what was a warm afternoon in the hunter.
Western United took an early lead in the sixth minute which saw Kahli Johnson knock it into the back of the net past goalkeeper Georgina Worth.
In the 18th minute the Jets went down to ten players after Emily Garnier received a straight red card after a tackle in the final third.
United doubled their lead with another goal from Kahli Johnson in the 34th minute.
Tyla-Jay Vlajnić scored a double for her side in the 38th and 44th minute, to extend their lead to 4-0.
Just before halftime, the Jets had an attacking opportunity with clinical play through the front three attackers to find Lara Gooch with a shot on goal, that was saved by Hillary Beall.
The second half began with the visitors leading 4-0. The Jets produced another quality attacking opportunity which saw Gooch’s shot denied off the line by United’s defence.
Western United continued to dominate in attack with Danielle Steer knocking the ball past Worth to bring the score line to 5-0.
Another goal in the 78th minute from Hannah Keane saw United take the lead to 6-0.
The match finished with Western United taking the three points back home with them.
Newcastle return home again next Saturday to take on Melbourne City, kicking off at 3pm.
