Two second half goals, including a 76th minute penalty to Anthony Skorich did the damage to the young Jets.
After a goalless first half, the Jets were dealt a blow in the 54th minute when Reece Vittiglia hit the back of the net for the Glory. However, the visitors would find the reply only two minutes later through youngster James Virgilli, who scored his second goal in three games in the National Youth League competition.
With scores level, drama unfolded in the 75th minute when skipper Taylor Regan was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box and was shown his second yellow card as a result. Glory senior team player Skorich made no mistake from the ensuing spot kick to give the home side a lead that they would go on to hold for the remainder of the game.
Jets coach Craig Deans believes the game was one of missed opportunities for his young chargers.
“We certainly had our fair share of chances in the match, and on another day we could have gone on and got something out of it,” he said. “As it was, they regained the lead, we went down to ten men, and in this kind of heat it makes it difficult to get back into the game.”
“To the credit of the boys they put in for the entire ninety minutes and their efforts really can-t be questioned, particularly in these conditions.”
“We-ll get back to full training with the entire squad this week and work on the bits and pieces that will hopefully see us get a bit more joy next time out,” Deans said.
