Newcastle Jets supporter group the Squadron have taken their passion for the club and the region to a new level this season via the launch of a charitable initiative known as #NewyHelps.
#NewyHelps aims to raise $3,500 to be shared between two valuable causes this season – Ronald McDonald House at John Hunter Children’s Hospital and Sam’s Fund for SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death due to Epilepsy).
Sam’s Fund was set up in memory of Squadron member Sam Taylor who passed away at the age of 23 in May this year.
For Ronald McDonald House, money raised throughout the #NewyHelps campaign will provide families of up to five people with the opportunity to attend Jets matches free of charge, be hosted by a former Newcastle Jets player, enjoy some catering, and get decked out in support of the club with a Squadron scarf.
President of the Squadron, Mr Grant Furner, said: “We are very proud to be able to launch the #NewyHelps campaign.”
“This initiative is especially personal for myself as I briefly stayed at Ronald McDonald House Newcastle back in 1994 when my sister was hospitalised with Transverse Myelitis, which left her paralysed for a short period.”
“While she made a full recovery, it was nonetheless a stressful time for our family and the staff and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House were absolutely invaluable in helping our family concentrate on caring for her by providing us with whatever we needed.”
Everyone who donates money to the #NewyHelps campaign will be automatically entered into the #NewyHelps Fundraising Raffle. Every $5 donated will get one entry into the raffle, while $25 will get you six entries.
