Newcastle Jets Members and fans can not only get behind their team at the Club’s round 25 match against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday at McDonald Jones Stadium, but also other less fortunate members of the Hunter community.
Those attending are being urged to bring a can of non-perishable food to the match to help the game’s charity partner, OzHarvest Newcastle, feed and nourish those doing it tough in the region.
The food drive is part of the Club’s annual community match, presented by the Jets and major community partner and match day sponsor, Greater Bank.
Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lawrie McKinna, said the community match is about celebrating the importance of a strong community to the Jets and each other.
“With the help of Greater Bank we are better connecting with our Members, fans and the broader community,” McKinna explained.
“We encourage our Members and supporters that are coming to Saturday’s match against Western Sydney to bring a non-perishable can of food and donate it to OzHarvest Newcastle.”
“Donations can be dropped off at one of the two bright yellow OzHarvest vans that will be located in the western car park at McDonald Jones Stadium from 4:00pm,” he explained.
The food collection will be part of the pre-game ‘Family Fun Fair’ to be held in the western carpark. It will feature live OzHarvest cooking demonstrations, seven inflatable games, face painting, and a range of other football inspired activities. Hit 106.9 will be broadcasting live from the event.
Greater Bank is also giving away 1,500 tickets to the match for kids aged 15 years and under, which can be collected from the Greater Bank marquee.
The pre-game Family Fun Fair will be open from 4:00pm until 5:30pm. Kick-off in Saturday’s match is at 5:35pm.
