The Newcastle Jets A-League Women’s squad will head to Gunnedah and Tamworth from 22nd-24th September as part of the club’s annual Jets:TOUR in partnership with the Club’s Major Community Partner, Greater Bank.
This follows the A-League Men’s squad tour of Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour in the week preceding.
First stop on the Women’s tour will be Gunnedah, where the squad will visit local primary schools in the area, before heading over to Geoff Morgan Fields in Gunnedah, where the full squad will host a Jets:PLAY clinic for 200 boys and girls aged between five and 14 years later on that afternoon.
The squad will then make their way to Tamworth where they will play a friendly against a select Northern NSW team the following day, as part of the festivities surrounding the local Northern Inland Grand Final fixtures at Scully Park, Tamworth.
Newcastle Jets A-League Women’s Head Coach, Gary van Egmond, said that the Club is looking forward to engaging with the regional NSW communities as part of their pre-season preparations.
“We’ve got plenty of new faces joining the squad this season, so as part of our pre-season preparations, it’s important that we get away as a group and start to form a strong bond within the group, on and off the field. With Greater Bank’s backing and the additional support of football people in the Northern Inland region of NSW, we’re really looking forward to spending some time in the community through our engagement activities as well as providing an opportunity for the region to see some of the game’s best footballers in action.”
“The Jets:TOUR fuelled by Greater Bank provides a great opportunity for us to meet many of our Members and fans in their backyard, and generally spread the word of the game and our Club to the wider community, especially with the current interest in women’s football on the back of the Matilda’s success at the Women’s World Cup.”
Greater Bank’s Regional Sales Manager, Will Boyd, said Jets:Tour is an amazing opportunity for local football fans to both learn from the pros and see them in action.
“On the back of the Matildas’ historic showing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the whole region has caught a serious case of football fever, and we’re so excited for the Jets to come and connect with our fans and community” Boyd said.
“The clinics will allow our budding football talents to hone their skills under the watchful eye of some of the A-Leagues’ finest, before the Jets give all their local fans a taste of what’s to come this season.
“As the Jets’ Major Community Partner, Greater Bank couldn’t be prouder to fuel Jets:TOUR!”
Wests Entertainment Group, Whitehaven Coal and Brown’s Tyres will also be lending their support to the weekend’s activities.
