Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce a partnership with #FootballForFires, which will see the charity event take pride of place on the front of the Club’s home kit for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Some of the greatest international footballers of the past decade are set to come together for the #FootballForFires match on Saturday 23 May at ANZ Stadium, in order to raise funds and honour thousands of brave volunteer firefighters and State Emergency Service personnel.

With names on the way such as Didier Drogba, Dwight Yorke, Claudio Marchisio, along with former Jets stars, Emile Heskey and Michael Bridges, the match promises to be a landmark occasion.

In order to raise awareness for the match, which will raise much-needed funds for bushfire affected areas across the country, the Newcastle Jets are throwing their support behind the initiative by emblazoning the front of their Hyundai A-League home jersey with #FootballForFires.

There are 2 major beneficiaries of this game and supporting donation program; Red Cross Australia/FootballForFires and FFA Football Relief Fund.

Newcastle Jets CEO, Lawrie McKinna, said the Club was proud to be able to provide its support for the bushfire relief match.

“We’ve seen all the acts of generosity throughout Australia and the world throughout the summer, and we just wanted to do our bit where we could,” McKinna said.

“When the opportunity to assist the #FootballForFires initiative came up, we as a Club couldn’t have been more keen to get on board and help the game raise as much money as possible for those in need.

“#FootballForFires will take pride of place on our home kit for our remaining five games at McDonald Jones Stadium this season, and we know the people of Newcastle will continue helping out where they can with the bushfire appeal.”

Tribal Sports Group Principal, Lou Sticca, thanked the Jets for their support.

“Thank you to the Newcastle Jets and to Lawrie McKinna for their fabulous gesture to include #FootballForFires on the front of the Newcastle Jets famous shirt for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League season,”

“The #FootballForFires game at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 23 May is a very important event. So many international footballers from all corners of the globe are coming to Sydney to help Australia raise money to rebuild those communities devastated by the fires.

“I am very proud of the football family, and Lawrie McKinna epitomises everything that is good about our game. We are all competitors yet when people need help, we come together! I hope that many people from Newcastle and the Hunter Valley are there on Saturday 23 May. In the meantime, go Jets!”
