Cessnock United Football Club received $1000 at the Jets’ match on Saturday as part of the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots program.
The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets, in conjunction with Hyundai, donated $1000 to local football club Cessnock United at Saturday-s A-League match against the Central Coast Mariners at Hunter Stadium as part of the Goals for Grassroots program.
As the selected club, Cessnock United FC received $1,000 for being selected, with the opportunity to increase their donation amount by $1,000 for every goal Newcastle Jets scored.
Unfortunately the Mariners proved too to be too strong for the Jets on the day but the grassroots club was still able to enjoy an array of match day benefits including tickets to the game and an on field presentation.
“We are a new club that was formed by the merging of two local clubs,” Cessnock United FC representative Ann Skinner said.
“We will be using the Hyundai grant for equipment for our new club, in particular new goals which can be quite expensive.”
Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich, who was standing in as captain for the injured Jobe Wheelhouse, said the Jets were happy to help out one of the region-s local football clubc.
“We get enormous pleasure seeing the young, future football stars at the match cheering on their local teams,” Zadkovich said.
“The future and the heart of the game is here with the kids, and we are delighted to be able to play a part in encouraging and nurturing the community teams.”
The Hyundai Goals for Grassroots program was initiated to support the growth of football in Australia by nurturing the game at its grassroots level.
It has been running for five years and it offers support to local clubs across the country by providing funding in much needed areas. Already over $300,000 has been donated to worthy grassroots clubs around Australia.
Local and community based clubs can apply for selection in the program by completing an on-line application indicating why their club should receive support from the Hyundai Goals for Grassroots program during Season 8 of the Hyundai A-League.
Applications can be completed by CLICKING HERE. To be eligible, clubs must belong to an association affiliated with the Football Federation Australia (FFA).
The Hyundai Goals for Grassroots Facebook page will feature the winning team each week and will work as an online community where clubs can share stories and tips.
