Match Reports: Jets Defeat Northern NSW All-Stars

Our A-League Men’s and Women’s teams defeated the Northern NSW All-Stars Teams 4-0 and 6-2 respectively at Darling Street Oval on Saturday.

The Women’s team kicked off the day at 3pm. India Breier would open the scoring in the 15th minute, as she capitalised on a corner that wasn’t properly cleared, tapping in from close range.

Just nine minutes later, she would get her second of the day. Cass Davis would play her in behind the all-stars defence. Breier would beat the keeper to the ball, poking it past her and into the net to give the Jets a 2-0 lead.

Breier would complete her hat-trick in the 40th minute. Lauren Allan would drive to the byline, before cutting a ball back across the box to India, who would finish past the keeper to secure the 3-0 lead going into the half-time.

In the 55th minute, Alexis Collins would score the fourth of the day, as she brought down a ball before tapping past the onrushing keeper. Just over five minutes later, Alexis would grab her second goal, getting beyond the defence before scoring her 1v1 opportunity to push the lead out to five.

Academy product Makayla Clifton would score the sixth goal of the game in the 78th minute, finding the top corner from close range after being slotted through one on one. The All-stars would pull back two goals late on, scoring in the 84th and 92nd minute.

India Breier was named the Player of the Match.

The Men’s fixture kicked off at 5pm, with the first half proving to be a physical affair as neither team were able to trouble the scoresheet. It would only take the Jets four minutes in the second half to grab a goal, as Oscar Fryer ghosted into the box to finish Lucas Scicluna’s low cross.

Oscar would again be involved in the second goal, as he touched the ball past the All-star defender before being fouled inside the box. Lachlan Rose would step up and slot the penalty into the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.

In the 66th minute, Rose would score his second of the night, and the teams third. Lucas Scicluna would win the ball off of the All-star defence, before slipping Rose in behind. Lachlan would lift the ball over the keepers legs, with the ball nestling into the bottom left corner.

The fourth and final goal of the game would come in the 81st minute through Xavier Bertoncello. Bertoncello would receive the ball on the left, before cutting inside, beating two players and smashing his effort into the bottom left corner.

Oscar Fryer was named Player of the Match.
