Match Report: Sub Saves The Day As Jets Open Campaign With Win

A goal from India Breier in the 89th minute sealed a 2-1 win for the Jets over Canberra United in the first round of the 2025/26 Ninja A-League Women’s Competition

Canberra United would strike first in the 14th minute, with Michelle Heyman latching onto an incisive through ball, before slotting past the outstretched Leat into the back of the net.

The Jets would level the scores in the 33rd minute through debutant Charlotte Lancaster. Fellow debutant Anna Leat would bomb a ball over the top of Canberra’s backline, with Lancaster taking the ball in her stride before calmly placing her effort into the bottom left corner.

Halftime would eventually come, with the scores locked at 1-1. In the 64th minute, Claire Adams, a last minute addition to the starting lineup, would be replaced by New Zealand International Kelli Brown. Olivia Page would also make her way onto the field in the 73rd minute, making her Jets debut in the process.

Not long before full time, India Breier and Zoe Karipidis would both come onto the field. It would be Breier who would eventually win it for the Jets, as she intercepted a wayward pass from Canberra, before squeezing her shot past Sally James, giving the Jets a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute. Canberra would push for a late equaliser, but the Jets were equal to the task, keeping Canberra out as they sealed an opening round win.

The A-League Women’s side are back in action on Sunday, November 16th as they take on Wellington Phoenix in Wellington. Their first home game is the week after, on the 22nd of November against Western Sydney Wanderers. Get your tickets HERE!
