The Jets would come back from across the ditch with a point thanks to a Melina Ayres penalty and several superb Anna Leat saves.

It wouldn’t be the start that Stephen Hoyle was hoping for, with Brooke Nunn opening the scoring for the Phoenix in the fourth minute. Nunn would get played in behind the Jets backline, barely squeezing her shot past Anna Leat in goal. There would be debate about whether or not the ball would cross the line, but it was given nonetheless.
The lead would last less than 20 minutes, with Lauren Allan being dragged down inside the box off ball, earning the Jets a penalty in the process. Melina Ayres would step up to the spot and calmy slot her effort into the bottom corner, sending Esson the wrong way in the process.
The rest of the half would remain largely even in terms of possession and shots, with neither team having a clear chance to score. The scores would remain level at 1-1 going into halftime.
Anna Leat made a terrific save in the 55th minute, as she got a finger-tip to a shot from distance, keeping the score even at 1-1. Soon after, Charlotte Lancaster was taken off for India Breier.
Kelli Brown would be brought on for Emma Dundas in the 68th minute. In the 80th minute, Lauren Allan and Melina Ayres were subbed off for Olivia Page and Claire Adams respectively. Soon after, Kelli Brown lined up a shot from a deep free kick, with her effort narrowly flying past the post.
The Jets would throw everything at Wellington, but were unable to find the back of the net again, with the score staying at 1-1 at full time. The Jets are back at home next weekend against the Western Sydney Wanderers. Get your tickets HERE!
