Match report: Seventh heaven for the Jets

The Newcastle Jets have recorded their seventh straight win in the Isuzu Ute A-League after a 3-1 win against Perth Glory at HBF Park on Friday night.

The Jets found the first goal of the game when a short corner was played to Lachlan Bayliss, who cut inside to curl his shot past Perth goalkeeper Matt Sutton in the 14th minute.

The Jets had a glorious chance to double the lead on the stroke of half-time, however, Will Dobson’s goal-bound shot was deflected away for a corner.

Jets striker Lachlan Rose got his side off to the perfect start at the second half when he found the ball fall to him inside the six-yard box to prod home past Sutton and double the Jets lead.

The home side were dealt a significant blow in the 67th minute when centre-back Brian Kaltak fouled Jets striker Ben Gibson. The Perth defender was the last man and left the referee no choice but to reduce the Glory to ten men.

The Jets put the game to bed in the 80th minute when Kota Mizunuma’s cross was slammed home at the back post by Xavier Bertoncello to make it 3-0.

Stefan Colakovski added a consolation goal for the Glory in injury time however Mark Milligan’s side cruised home for the seventh straight win in the League.

The Jets next face Macarthur Bulls on Sunday, February 22nd at McDonald Jones Stadium.
