Match Report: Rose at the double as Jets win in Auckland

The Jets suffered an early injury blow when Alex Badolato was taken from the field with injury. Will Dobson was substituted on in his place.

Mark Milligan’s side didn’t let Badolato’s departure faze them and were rewarded just a minute later when Clayton Taylor made a darting run into the box to cross back towards Lachlan Rose who smashed home the opening goal at the near post.

Auckland soon found an equaliser when Jesse Randall caught James Delianov off-guard at the near post with a clever free-kick that made it 1-1 in the 13th minute.

The Jets kept attacking and regained the lead when Clayton Taylor’s shot was palmed into the path of Will Dobson who found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

The Jets were reduced to 10 men on the 21st-minute mark when Max Cooper was shown a second yellow card.

The Jets headed into the half time break leading Steve Corica’s side 2-1.

The Jets started the second half by making a couple of changes with Joe Shaughnessy and Xavieer Bertoncello replacing Clayton Taylor and Eli Adams.

The home side threw at absoltely everything at the Jets but Mark Milligan’s side held firm with Mark Natta and Joe Shaughnessy marshalling the backline.

The Jets were dealt a further blow with substitute Christian Bracco unable to finish the game after sucumbing to injury.

Auckland were awarded a corner late on in the contest and Mark Natta made a darting run from the Jets’ 18-yard box. His ball was played across to Lachlan Rose who put the icing on the cake for a famous away win.

The Newcastle Jets are next in action on the 11th January when they take on Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
