A second-half strike from Melina Ayres has rescued a point on the road for Stephen Hoyle’s Ninja A-League side.
The Wanderers got off to the perfect start when Talia Younis was allowed time and space to rifle her shot from distance past Jets goalkeeper Georgia Ritchie inside the first minute.
The Jets had a chance at the end of the first half when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Charlotte Lancaster saw her shot well saved by Wanderers goalkeeper Sham Khamis.
The Jets had a great chance to equalise in the 58th minute when Lauren Allan squared her pass for Sophie Hoban, only for Danika Matos to block the shot from a certain goal.
Khamis once again prevented the away side from scoring, this time putting her body on the line to save a shot from Lauren Allan.
The Jets’ determination soon paid off when Sophie Hoban was able to disposess Wanderers defender Wang Ying to square her pass for Melina Ayres to make it 1-1 in the 77th minute.
The home side had a chance to win the game late on when forward Cushla Rue turned Jets defender Natasha Prior inside out twice, only to be denied by Ritchie and keep the result at 1-1 at full time.
Stephen Hoyle’s Jets side next face Perth Glory at No. 2 Sportsground on Saturday, February 21. Kick-off at 5 pm (AEDT).
