Match Report: Jets suffer defeat to Auckland FC

The Newcastle Jets have suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Auckland FC at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday afternoon

Auckland FC had the first chance of the game when Francis De Vries had a free-kick saved by Jets goalkeeper James Delianov in the 13th minute.

Auckland found the first goal just minutes later when a break down the left from Jesse Randall resulted in a cross that was finished by Sam Cosgrove to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

The Jets responded in the 28th minute when a well-worked set piece involving Daniel WIlmering and Clayton Taylor was finished off by the latter to make it 1-1.

The Jets lost attacker Clayton Taylor towards the end of the first half to injury and was replaced by Xavier Bertoncello.

Steve Corica’s side responded at the start of the second half when Auckland defender Francis De Vries lofted a cross which was met at the back post for Sam Cosgrove to score his second goal of the match.

The Newcastle Jets next face Sydney FC on Sunday, the 22nd March at Allianz Stadium. Kick-off is at 3 pm.
