Match Report: Jets suffer defeat in Sunshine Coast

The home side had the first chance of the afternoon when Jay O’Shea tested Jets’ goalkeeper James Delianov with a long range shot which was turned away for a corner in the third minute.

The Newcastle Jets threatened to get in behind Brisbane’s defensive line with Will Dobson and Ben Gibson making dangerous runs in behind.

The Roar took the lead when 18-year-old Lucas Herrington evaded the Jets defence to head home from a corner.

The Jets started the second half brightly when Will Dobson was unlucky to not draw his side level after he saw his chip shot saved by Brisbane goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis.

Brisbane doubled their lead on the 77th minute when Aleksandar Šušnjar fouled Roar midfielder Henry Hore in the box. O’Shea stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick.

The Roar sealed the win when Quinn MacNicol saw his shot deflect off the post and give Brisbane a 3-0 win on the Sunshine Coast.

The Newcastle Jets next face Perth Glory after the Men’s FIFA international break on November 23 at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.
