The Jets started the match very brightly and created a number of attacking chances before finding the breakthrough when Max Burgess put in a delightful cross for Xavier Bertoncello to head the ball home inside the first five minutes and give Newcastle a 1-0 lead.
The Jets doubled their lead on the 15th minute mark when Daniel Wilmering found space on the left hand side to float in a cross for Kota Mizunuma to smash home and make it 2-0.
Avondale threatened and almost pulled a goal back however Newcastle goalkeeper James Delianov displayed composure to make a big one-on-one save from Stefan Zinni.
Avondale did find a goal before the break when the ball found its way to Luca Tevere inside the box and the midfielder neatly tucked home his shot to make it 2-1 heading into the interval.
The home side started the second half with intent and found the equaliser in the 57th minute when Daniel Wilmering committed a foul inside the box to concede a penalty. Tevere stepped up to send his spot-kick past Delianov and make it 2-2.
Mark Milligan injected Eli Adams into the contest and it paid dividends when the Jets attacker found space inside the box to fire his shot past Avondale goalkeeper Thomas Manos and make it 3-2 to Newcastle.
Academy graduate Alex Nunes entered the match late in the contest and sealed the Jets’ place in the final with a late goal to make it 4-2.
The win sees the Newcastle Jets compete in the Australia Cup final for the first time in the Club’s history with the match to be played on Saturday 4th October. The venue for the match will be confirmed in due course.
