Match Report: History repeats as Rose fires Jets into the top four

Lachlan Rose has moved to the top of the A-League golden boot lead after his goal saw the Jets claim all three points against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

The Jets were on the attack from the start with Clayton Taylor forcing a smart save from City goalkeeper Patrick Beach inside the first minute.

In the 23rd minute Lachlan Rose almost opened the scoring for the Jets when he found himself on the end of Daniel Wilmering’s cross, only to be denied by a brilliant save from Beach.

In the 40th minute, Medin Memeti’s shot was parried by Jets goalkeeper James Delianov however, the follow-up was poked him by Andrew Nabbout. After a check from VAR, the goal was ruled out for offside.

Will Dobson found space on the edge of the 18-yard box in the 50th minute however, the young Novocastrian saw his shot sail wide.

Just six minutes later, Eli Adams played in a delightful through ball with the outside of his boot for Clayton Taylor; however, the latter could not put his shot on target.

The Jets found the breakthrough in the 66th minute when Lachlan Rose dispossessed Germán Ferreyra to cool finish past Beach.

Joel Bertolissio almost scored his first goal in the A-League when he burst through City’s defensive line late on to see his shot hit the crossbar.

The Jets held on for the win and next face the Western Sydney Wanderers at CommBank Stadium on Saturday, 17th January.
