Match Report: Glory Defeat Jets

The Newcastle Jets went down 2-1 to Perth Glory after Bertoncello’s opener was cancelled out by Lawrence and Pennington.

Xavier Bertoncello opened the scoring in the 15th minute, scoring his first A-Leagues goal in the process. Bertoncello picked up the ball on the wing, before finding Burgess in the middle of the park. Burgess would play Dobson, who then found Badolato. Alex would then slip Bertoncello in behind the defence, who would take a touch before calmy placing his effort into the top right corner.

Max Cooper had a chance to get on the scoresheet as well, getting his head on the end of a corner, but Kaltak would be able to get in the way and block his effort. Tom Lawrence would equalise in the 37th minute, finding the back of the net after Bozinovski found him inside the box.

The score would remain at 1-1 going into the halftime break. Perth would make a halftime substitution, taking Timmins off for Freney. In the 54th minute, Clayton Taylor would replace Bertoncello, whilst Glory also brought on Taggart and Ostler for Lebib and Lawrence.

Soon after, Ben Gibson would replace Lachlan Rose and Pennington would replace Wales. Glory would soon be awarded a controversial penalty, after the ball struck Wilmering in the back of the arm after a Glory player headed it back towards goal. Pennington would step up and cooly find the top corner from the spot, putting Perth up 2-1.

The Jets would fight for an equaliser, but would be unable to find it, with the Glory defence holding strong. The Jets are back in action next weekend, as they travel to play Auckland FC on Sunday.
