Match Report: Bulls Tamed, Jets Soar To Semi-Finals

The Newcastle Jets secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Macarthur as they reach the Australia Cup semi-finals for the first time in the clubs history.

Starting lineup against Macarthur

The first chance of the game came to Xavier Bertoncello, who was released down the line by Daniel Wilmering. Bertoncello accelerated past Talbot before looking to square the ball across the box, instead winning a corner as the ball deflected off of Kršlović. From the resulting corner, Kota found Wilmering, who cut inside and fired, only for his shot to drift agonisingly past the post.

The Jets would open the scoring in the 18th minute, through Max Burgess. Christian Bracco received the ball from Kota Mizunuma. He cut inside and drove towards the box before attempting to play a ball through the Bulls defence. The ball fell back to Bracco, who played Badolato in. Badolato ran at the defence before playing in Wilmering with a nice reverse ball. Wilmering cut the ball back to the penalty spot, where Burgess was able to smash the ball into the bottom right corner, scoring his first ever Jets goal as well as giving his team a 1-0 lead.

The score would stay at 1-0 going into the break, with the Jets firmly in the drivers seat. In the 57th minute, James Delianov would be called into action, as Harrison Sawyer was able to win a header right on the six yard box. James was quick to react, getting down to push the ball away from goal, with the follow up from Chris Ikonomidis going well wide of the far post.

The Jets would finally grab a second goal in the 73rd minute. Badolato would drive forward through midfield before finding Eli Adams out wide. Eli would bounce the ball straight into the path of Will Dobson, who would touch the ball away from the defender before nailing the ball into the bottom corner, scoring his first senior goal in the process.

Just minutes after the restart, the Jets would grab a third goal, this time through fan favourite Kota Mizunuma. Will Dobson would slide a ball through the Macarthur backline towards Alex Badoloato, who would find Mizunuma unmarked in the box. Kota would make no mistake, smashing his effort past Kurto into the bottom left corner.
