Mariners Hit For Six as Jets Equal Derby Record

The Newcastle Jets were able to equal the F3 Derby record for biggest win, as they defeated the Mariners by six goals to nil

The Jets were flying from the moment the game kicked off, with Eli Adams narrowly missing the target inside the first minute. ‘The Aussie Cole Palmer’ was also on the receiving end of several fouls inside the first ten minutes, as the Mariners attempted to stifle his influence.

Whilst our attackers gave their backline trouble, it was centre-back Aleksander Susnjar who opened the scoring in the F3 Derby. A corner was flicked on to the back post, where Susnjar was wide open to head the ball in from close range. 1-0 lead inside 20 minutes.

Lachlan Rose had a chance to make it 2-0, as he darted in behind the Mariners defence and attempted to lift the ball over Peraic-Cullen. The Mariners shot-stopper was able to make a good save to deny the Jets a second.

Storm Roux, who had been subbed on to replace Doka, was shown a straight red card after elbowing Callum Timmins during a tangle on the sideline. Soon after, the Jets found a second. The ever-dangerous Taylor made his way behind the Coast defence, before cutting a ball across the box, which was turned in by Trent Sainsbury. The score remained 2-0 going into the halftime break.

The boys wasted no time after the restart, with Clayton Taylor finding himself in space. He lofted a ball to the back post, which Wilmering was able to get on the end of, putting the boys up 3-0 as well as scoring his first goal for the club. A minute later, Clayton turned from provider to goal scorer, as he wormed himself away from the Mariners defence, before unleashing a pile-driver of a strike from the edge of the area which nestled into the back of the net. 4-0 with plenty more still to come!

Eli Adams was able to round out the rout with a spectacular brace. His first, a cutback from Kota Mizunuma which he was able to squeeze past the Mariners custodian. His second goal, a thumping finish which smashed into the crossbar before dropping into the back of the net.

With that final goal, the Jets were able to equal the record for biggest win in the Derby. The previous record was set by the 2017/18 Jets, who defeated the Mariners 8-2.
