Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski says he is determined to hit the ground running for the Jets next season after his 2012/13 campaign ended prematurely due to a knee injury.

Kantarovski managed just four A-League appearances for the Jets this season after damaging the meniscus in his right knee in early November.

The 21-year-old underwent an intensive rehabilitation program that saw him return to full training with the rest of the Jets squad during the final weeks of the season.

“I was happy to get back to training and training with the team fully,” Kantarovski said.

“It-s just a matter of slowly progressing as it is, but at the end of the day I-m back to training and back to playing.”

While the majority of his teammates are on their end of season break, Kantarovski will continue training for a short period of time in order to re-build his base level of fitness.

The Olyroos representative said the time spent on the sidelines had made him even more determined to come back bigger and better next in 2013/14.

“I-ll spend a little bit more time training during the off-season than the rest of the boys and I-ll get a bit of a break later on,” Kantarovski said.

“Hopefully after that I-ll be able to come straight back in with the rest of the team and start flying for next season.

“It-s been frustrating watching everyone else being able to train and play games while I haven-t been able to do anything.

“It-s a good feeling to be back training now and hopefully that will hold me in good stead when I get back on the field and start playing games later on.”
