Just a minor strain for Bridges

Newcastle Jets forward Michael Bridges felt a small twinge in his hamstring at training on Saturday morning and will be on light duties just for a week to mend the grade one strain.

“It is a really minor strain and we will only modify his training program for a week,” Physiotherapist Robert Dingle said.

“He won-t be available to play the trial game this week, but we expect to have back to full training next week.”

The Jets are in their middle phase of their pre-season training program and niggles are expected while they train with such intensity.

“Bridgey is a true professional and we can-t fault the way he prepares and recovers each week,” Dingle added.

“This would be his first tweak in 18 months and it is just a result of the heavy load of training at the moment.

“The players are being challenged from a physical point of view at the moment and they are responding well.

“We expect a few niggles to pop up while we are in this heavy load block but once we get into the final phase and we reduce the load, the players will sharpen up and the risk of those soft tissue injuries and niggles decrease.”
