Joel Griffiths returned to the Jets after spending time in China and a short stint with Sydney FC. Griffiths spent four seasons at Chinese Super League powerhouses Beijing Guoan and Shanghai Shenhua. The 33-year-old scored 34 goals from 94 appearances in the Chinese Super League, playing alongside Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba in Shanghai. Griffiths has been a regular goal scorer during stints in the National Soccer League with Sydney United, Parramatta Power and Newcastle Jets, NE Xamax in Switzerland, and Avispa Fukuoka in the J-League. He was the 2007/08 Hyundai A-League Johnny Warren Medallist and Golden Boot winner while playing for the Newcastle Jets. Joel was born and raised in the Sutherland Shire his brothers Adam and Ryan are also professional footballers. Griffiths is the Jets’ all-time leading goal-scorer with 31 goals. He scored three times in eight matches for the Jets during the 2013/14 season.
