“It was always in my sights, ever since I was a young boy, to play for my home city and before a Newcastle crowd week in week out,” he said.
And it would seem that even though he is about to begin his seventh straight season with the Jets, Jobe-s childhood dream hasn-t lost any of its appeal.
“Some of the team might call me one of the old boys, but that just means that I have more experience than them,” Wheelhouse laughs.
Culina speaks highly of the Newcastle product as the Jets continue their run of trial matches against quality oppositions.
“He is a great contributor to the Jets and has had a very good pre-season so far. We expect a lot from him,” said coach Branko Culina.
“What he achieves throughout the coming season is up to him, I-m hoping for the very best and an injury free season.
“He-s a hardworking and extremely capable player; he is training hard and one of the key players in the team.”
After last week-s 1-0 victory over Melbourne Heart, Jobe and the team have to wait at least another week for their next pre-season outing after this week-s schedule game against Lake Macquarie had to be cancelled.
