The Newcastle Jets Youth Team have tonight recorded their first win of the inaugural National Youth League competition, with a convincing 4-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium
Midfielder Jesse Pinto kicked off proceedings with a free-kick from the edge of the area on 21 minutes. The curling ball deflected off the wall and nestled in the back of the Mariners- net to give the young Jets their first goal of the season.
Some ten minutes later, and South Coast youngster Adrian Karakolevski hit a sublime left-footed strike from 20 yards out to give the Jets a comfortable and well deserved lead.
Midway through the second stanza and replacement player James Virgilli took the ball on with a head of steam from the halfway line. Surging toward goal, Virgilli rounded the Mariners goalkeeper and neatly slotted home the third goal of the game.
To complete the route, Virgilli then played in striker Brodie Mooy, who caused the home defence trouble all game. Mooy turned on the edge of the box, and struck a sweet left-footed drive into the bottom corner.
After the game, coach Craig Deans was naturally thrilled with his young chargers.
“Obviously I-m very pleased with the result and the game the boys played,” he said.
“The game was particularly pleasing because we had no overage players in the squad and the young ones really stepped up and took the initiative.”
“As I said, I-m very pleased with the result. Once again the boys played a good brand of football, which they-ve done since the start of the competition without much joy. It was good to see them get their reward tonight,” concluded Deans.
