The Jets Youth have defeated Perth Glory 6-1 at Wanderers Oval on Saturday morning.
Newcastle Jets have scored an emphatic 6-1 victory over Perth Glory in their Foxtel National Youth League Round 4 clash at Wanderers Oval on Saturday.
Both sides registered a goal in a frantic opening 12 minutes with Kale Bradbery and Joseph Knowles getting on the scoresheet, before the Jets started to dominate the fixture with James Virgili bagging a double and causing the Glory defence plenty of problems with his pace on the wings.
Newcastle striker Thomas Waller also slotted a goal while Joey Gibbs grabbed a late double in the impressive rout.
The Jets scored in just the 10th minute of the match when Waller took the ball in an attacking position and played a lovely through ball for Bradbery, who sprinted into the box, took one touch and chipped a left-footed shot over goalkeeper Fraser Greenwood and into the far corner of the net.
The Glory were back on level terms just two minutes later when Isaka Cernak fed striker Knowles, who showed plenty of pace and poise to streak into the box before propping and slotting his shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
The match started to settle down from there with the home side controlling the flow and they regained the lead when Virgili produced a weaving run down the right flank before darting into the box where he fired a vicious shot that proved too powerful for Greenwood at the near post for a 2-1 lead after 27 minutes.
Virgili almost had his second a few minutes later when he was played into the area by Michael Kantarovski. Greenwood did well to smother the shot, but the ball squirted out to Gibbs, who saw it cleared off the line by Jack Clisby.
The Jets finished the half on the attack with Virgili hitting the crossbar just before the interval.
The home side picked up where they left off after the break with Virgili hitting the post after another incisive run.
Newcastle made it 3-1 just before the hour mark when Gibbs fed Waller, who netted a neat shot through a crowded penalty area.
Virgili got due reward for an eye-catching effort when he was on the spot to drill a shot past Greenwood after a corner in the 62nd minute.
With all the momentum behind them the Jets continued to press hard in attack and they profited from the endeavour when Gibbs poked home with his second effort after Greenwood had blocked his initial shot from point-blank range.
Gibbs completed the shellacking when he ghosted in from the right wing and steered a shot inside the far post right on the stroke of full-time.
