It was another strong defensive display by our young Jets as they stamped themselves as one of the team’s to beat in the Football NSW League Three competition winning 2-nil over Hurstville at home.
The win now sees them continue their reign at the top of the table, with 14 goals for, and still zero against.
Football NSW League 3 Men’s Reporter, Jack George reviews the tight match from Sunday evening:
Newcastle Jets 2 – 0 Hurstville FC
Newcastle has made it three wins from three games with a 2-0 victory over Hurstville FC at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.
The home side opened the scoring early in the 2nd minute, with Blake Archbold converting a penalty for the Jets.
The half that followed was a scrappy affair, with neither side managing to create many chances in more of a midfield battle.
In the second half, a counter-attack off a Hurstville freekick from Newcastle saw Archbold grab his second of the evening.
Hurstville came at Newcastle in the last fifteen minutes, with Luis Ferreira providing a spark for the away team, but they couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Elsewhere across our teams, there were wins aplenty as each side picked up a victory in their matches.
The 13s continued their blistering goalscoring form, knocking home nine to take their tally to 35 in six games, while the 16s managed to score four to extend their lead at the top despite conceding just their first goal in six games.
Across the board, it’s been a successful start to the season, with our 13s, 16s and 18s and Youth side all leading their respective competitions, with the rest of the sides all inside the top three.
