Gary van Egmond is pleased that his team was able to fight back and claim a victory over Gold Coast United.
After the Newcastle Jets nail-biting win over Gold Coast United at Ausgrid Stadium last night, a relieved Gary van Egmond spoke of how pleased he was to see his team fight back to overcome Gold Coast United 3-2.
“When a team is leading 2-nil and there are two goals scored, the impetus is with the team that has scored last and for us to hit back so quickly and find a way to score was extremely pleasing,” van Egmond said.
“It is still a work in progress and the difficult for us right now is building confidence in each other, because we have just been through a rough patch.”
Playing their second game in four days, van Egmond was forced to make some changes to his line-up and hopes that Wednesday night-s result showed how much the players want to win the Members and supporters belief back.
“We were nervous early on but we got into the game and while I am not happy they conceded two goals, I think we showed exactly what we are about,” he explained.
“To have two 19-year-olds in the centre of our midfield and to perform how we did was fantastic.”
The Jets will now travel to Melbourne, where they will take on Melbourne Victory on Saturday evening.
