The Newcastle Jets have welcomed the news that Hunter Stadium will be re-surfaced between September and October.
The Newcastle Jets have welcomed the news that the NSW Government and Local Orgnanising Committee of AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 will fund the re-surfacing of the Hunter Stadium pitch.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby hailed the announcement as a major development for football in the Hunter region.
“Work has been needed on the Hunter Stadium playing surface for a long time, but as a Club we-re delighted this will take place during September and October,” Middleby said.
“Today-s news shows the bright future the sport has and this decision will please football fans across the region.”
Middleby thanked the NSW Government and LOC for the major investment in Hunter Stadium.
“The re-surfacing will ensure Hunter Stadium is in the best possible condition to host a showpiece event like the AFC Asian Cup,” Middleby explained.
“The new pitch will form a major part of the legacy of the Government-s decision to help bring the AFC Asian Cup to Australia and Newcastle.”
Middleby said the Newcastle Jets look forward to close consultation with VenuesNSW regarding the rollout of this re-surfacing.
“The Jets have been long term supporters of this project and have been in consultation with FFA and Hunter Stadium to play several away matches at the start of the season to allow this work to be completed,” Middleby said.
“We-re looking forward to first home match on the new pitch at Hunter Stadium in mid-November.”
