The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets welcome David Gallop into his new role as the CEO of Football Federation Australia.
Through its ownership of the Newcastle Knights, Hunter Sports Group had the unique opportunity to work closely with David when he was previously in charge of the NRL.
Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Club was looking forward to building a positive working relationship with the game’s new CEO, just like it had quickly built a strong relationship with the A-League’s new boss Damien de Bohun.
“I think it is a positive step at a time the A-League competition has never been stronger and enjoying amazing growth and positive publicity; David comes with a positive reputation and a very good track record with the NRL as a sports administrator,” Middleby said.
“It-s a crucial period for football in this country with the Asian Cup in 2015.
“Leading into that we need to make sure we have the right person at the helm and by all reports, David Gallop is the right person for that job.”
Gallop started in his new post at the FFA-s headquarters today and said he is looking forward to helping contribute to the continued growth of football in Australia.
“I’ve always liked football and believe I can make a great contribution to it,” Gallop said.
“I look forward to being a part of it. It’s the world game and the game that gets us on the world stage.
“The game’s statistics around participation, crowds and TV ratings are hugely impressive.
“My job is to keep the passion for the sport in balance with sound business principals that will drive the game forward at every level.”
