With the Hyundai A-League enjoying a split round over the next fortnight, the Newcastle Jets will have a well-earned weekend off.

But there will be no rest for Ernie Merrickā€™s men, as they take an open training session to the Tomaree Sports Complex in Nelson Bay.

The session is open to the public and will be undertaken on Matchfield No.1, with a signing session to follow training, as well as a sausage sizzle thanks to Nelson Bay Football Club.

The training session has been made possible thanks to Port Stephens Accommodation and Winning Holidays (managed by Alloggio) and Port Stephens Council.

Newcastle Jetsā€™ CEO, Lawrie McKinna said the open training session was an opportunity to thank the clubā€™s many supporters in the Port Stephens area.

ā€œThis is a great opportunity for the Jets to make a presence in Port Stephens, we have a lot of fans who travel down to our games and itā€™s time we show our appreciation for their continued support,ā€ said McKinna.

ā€œWeā€™re really focused on engaging with the community and grassroots football, a massive thanks must go to Alloggio, Port Stephens Council and the Nelson Bay Football Club for making this possible.ā€

Alloggio Managing Director, Will Creedon was looking forward to a big turn out to the open training session.

ā€œWe at Port Stephens Accommodation and Winning Holidays wanted to show our appreciation to the community of Port Stephens who so openly and warmly welcomed thousands of our visitors to the area over the Christmas and New Year period,ā€ said Mr Creedon,

ā€œWe hope that Port Stephens locals are able to come along to the open training session to watch their team in action and stay to get their chance to meet their heroes.ā€
