Jets suffer defeat to Adelaide

The Newcastle Jets went down 2-4 to Adelaide United at home this Saturday night, with the Newcastle Jets goals coming from Jason Hoffman and Angus Thurgate.

Both sides started off the match with strong intensity as quality attacking chances were at both ends of the field.

The Jets had an early chance when Matthew Jurman took a long range shot that just grazed over the bar.

Adelaide took the lead in the 12th minute with a long range shot from Craig Goodwin who hit the ball into the back of the net.

Just two minutes after, Zach Clough doubled United’s lead hitting the ball past Jack Duncan.

The Jets followed suite with Jason Hoffman hammering a long range shot past Adelaide’s goalkeeper Joe Gauci. 

With three goals scored within a six-minute window, the intensity of the attack continued.

The Jets continued to push forward as Hoffman nearly got a second goal just before half time where his firing shot hit the crossbar just missing the top of the net. 

Adelaide scored another in the 44th minute with saw Luka Jovanovic get his name on the scoresheet.

The Jets followed by scoring in injury time which saw Angus Thurgate slotting the ball into the net, taking the half time score to 3-2 as Adelaide led. 

The second half saw Newcastle nearly score, with the cross just grazing the top of the goals, unable to find someone at the back post.

In the 65th minute Adelaide’s young gun Nestory Irankunda scored a fourth for his side as he fired the ball past Duncan and into the net.

Newcastle continued to dominate possession in the second half, creating attacking chances however were unlucky to find the net in front of the goals. 

Adelaide went home with the three points as the final score was 4-2 to the Reds.

The Jets next host Perth Glory at McDonald Jones Stadium next Saturday night with a 5:00pm kick off.
