This week the Jets will seek further clarification from the FFA in regards to the number of yellow cards issued.

The Newcastle Jets will be without defender Josh Mitchell and forward Ryan Griffiths due to suspension for the Round 10 clash with the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night at Hunter Stadium.

Mitchell was issued a red card after receiving a second yellow card in the Jets 1-0 loss to the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium while Griffiths picked up his fifth yellow of the season.

Coach Gary van Egmond didn-t dispute these particular decisions however was frustrated with the number of cards issued.

“Brisbane made 13 fouls, we made 12 fouls, we got seven yellow cards, plus Josh Mitchell-s second makes it eight, but they didn-t get one. I will leave it at that,” the coach said after the game.

Van Egmond was quick to also defend the referees.

“I don-t want to dwell on those decisions, it is what is and I am disappointed we conceded a soft goal; we probably should have been two up before their penalty,” he added.

“We need to nurture the referees and we have to keep working with them to get them better, like every part of our game.

“As we keep evolving in every aspect of our game, we need to in our refereeing side and it is important to put time into that.”

This week the Jets will seek further clarification from the FFA-s head of the referees in regards to the number of yellow cards issued.

“I had a conversation with them last week, so we will probably have another one this week,” van Egmond said.

“Each week it seems we are getting more than five, and if you get more than five you get a fine.

“So my CEO won-t be happy with me again, but we will just try and get some explanation and find out what we can do better.”

The suspensions will mean at least two changes to the starting line-up for the F3 Derby at Hunter Stadium.
