The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce the signing of striker Ryan Griffiths, today putting pen-to-paper on a 2-year deal to stay in Newcastle.
Griffiths, as reported, attracted interest from within Australia as well as from overseas.
“It is great for the Jets and the A-League competition that Ryan has re-signed with the Jets,” CEO Robbie Middleby said.
“He turned down big offers from clubs in Asia and Australia, which is a great show of loyalty to the Jets.”
Griffiths said the direction of the Jets since the Hunter Sports Group took over played a major part in his decision to re-sign.
“My sole reason for signing was about joining a Club with a huge future,” Griffiths said.
“I believe the Jets can provide exactly that and I want to be a part of it.
“From when I first arrived here to when the Hunter Sports Group took over the Club, the change and professionalism of the Club are second to none.
“Whilst I know we can still improve, it is an exciting time to be at the Jets.
“Although I wasn-t born here, I consider myself a Novocastrian just like my wife and son and I wouldn-t want to be anywhere else.”
Coach Gary van Egmond said Griffiths is the type of player he wants at the Club.
“Ryan is a talented player with a lot to offer; on and off the field his leadership is particularly exemplary,” van Egmond said.
“Ryan is a true professional and sets a great example for all the players.
“We are pleased he agreed to stay in Newcastle and play for the Jets.”
