Jets re-sign Goodwin

Newcastle Jets winger Craig Goodwin has re-signed with the Club until the end of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets winger Craig Goodwin has signed a two-year contract extension with the Jets, keeping him at the Club until the end of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

Since joining Newcastle from Melbourne Heart prior to the start of the 2012/13 season, Goodwin has made 39 Hyundai A-League appearances for the Jets, scoring five goals.

“I-m very happy here, I like the surroundings, I love the city and the fans have been fantastic towards me since day one,” Goodwin said.

“As well as the supporters, the selling point was definitely the group of boys that we have here and the squad that we-re building.

“Going forward, it will be good for all of us to continue playing together and I think you-ll start to really see us grow as players and as a team as we get more and more experience.

“I think the coming years should be pretty bright for the Club, so it-s good to have my future set here and I-m very excited about what lies ahead.”

After impressing during his debut season with the Jets, Goodwin was invited during the off-season to train with then English Premier League side Reading FC.

In July, the 22-year-old was called up to the Socceroos squad for the EAFF East Asian Cup in Korea Republic, and made his senior international debut in a 3-2 loss to Japan.

After being in and out of the Jets line-up during the early part of the 2013/14 campaign, Goodwin has started in Newcastle-s past seven matches, including scoring a brace against Wellington Phoenix in Round 18.

Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said the Club was delighted to have secured Goodwin-s services until the end of the 2015/16 Hyundai A-League season.

“We-ve been in discussion with Craig and his management for some time and we-re extremely pleased to have finalised a deal to keep him in Newcastle for another two seasons,” Middleby said.

“We see Craig as a talented young player with a lot of potential and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow and develop over the next couple of years.”
