Connor Chapman, Mitch Cooper and Adam Taggart will represent Australia at the upcoming AFF U-19 Tournament in Vietnam.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets players Connor Chapman, Mitch Cooper and Adam Taggart have been selected in the Young Socceroos squad for the upcoming AFF U-19 Tournament in Vietnam.
Joshua Brillante was also selected in the original squad but was forced to withdraw with a hip-flexor injury.
Cooper said he was looking forward to taking part in the tournament and once again wearing the green and gold.
“It-s always a real honour to get recognised and get picked to play for your country again,” he said.
“International level is always different to Club football and it-s good to see how other countries are developing with their football.
“Australia is lucky with the resources that we have and we should be making the most of it, so hopefully we can do that when we get to Vietnam.”
The Young Socceroos will line up against IR Iran, Vietnam and Uzbekistan in the competition.
The event is part of their preparations for the AFC U-19 Championship, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in November, which will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Turkey next June/July.
The squad features a number of players who competed in the AFC U-22 Tournament in Indonesia in July and Cooper believes that team chemistry will hold the Young Socceroos in good stead in Vietnam.
“Towards the end of the Indonesia tournament, we started to gel well together and we qualified,” he said.
“Hopefully we can continue that bond and get stronger because we have the Asian Cup qualifiers coming up in November.”
The AFF U-19 Tournament will be played in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 2 – 8 September 2012.
