The Jets returned to training early this week in the hope of bouncing back this week.
While most people were enjoying the Boxing Day holiday, the Newcastle Jets were back on the training paddock, cutting their Christmas break short in the hope of bouncing back from their loss to Wellington this weekend when they line up against Perth Glory.
“The players were eager to get back to training and the mood has been really good this week,” coach Gary van Egmond said.
“We know talk is cheap and we can-t wait for Saturday to come so we can try and rebuild some trust with our Members and supporters.”
Striker Michael Bridges confirmed the players were eager to make amends by returning to training earlier.
“The boys have come back and we have worked our socks off,” Bridges said.
“Obviously the manager brought us in on Boxing Day but the lads were actually talking about coming in anyway themselves, to put things right, but the only way you can judge that is come the next home game.”
The team are well aware of how important Saturday-s New Years eve game is, having not won since their defeated Melbourne Victory in week 10.
“We have definitely taken stock of what happened on the weekend and Saturday is a chance for us to come out and make a statement and that is exactly what the players are determined to do,” the coach explained.
“It is a long season and teams are starting to move away from us and we need to make sure we are in the six.
“There is nothing worse than having to play catch up at the end of the season and we don-t want to be in that position.
“We are in charge of our own destiny and it starts on Saturday against Perth Glory.”
The Jets are hoping all their Members and supporters will come and support the team on Saturday and are offering free junior tickets when an adult ticket is purchased, click here for more information.
