Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets winger Craig Goodwin says the Jets are determined to bounce back from the disappointment of their F3 Derby loss when they travel to nib Stadium to take on Perth Glory on Friday night.
With minimal time to prepare, the Jets face the tough task of going to Perth and trying to get their first away win against the Glory since 2005.
Goodwin said the focus will be on rest and recovery this week as the Jets look to shake off the frustration of losing to their local rivals, the Central Coast Mariners, in last weekend-s F3 Derby.
“I think it-s always disappointing to lose any game, especially against Central Coast in the derby, it-s not really what we wanted obviously,” Goodwin said.
“I think what hurts a bit more is we controlled periods of the game and had our chances to perhaps win the game, but unfortunately we just couldn-t put them away.
“I think we just need rest and recover and work on the things we need to at the training ground before we go to Perth and hopefully get a result there.”
Goodwin said that the Jets- inability to convert their opportunities proved to be the difference against the Mariners and it is something they-ll look to correct in training this week.
“I just think it came down to who put away their chances and they happened to put a couple away and we didn-t,” he said.
“I think it was a really even game and it could have gone either way.
“At the end of the day you sort of make your own luck and you-ve got to put those chances away at crucial points at this stage of the season.
“Hopefully we get back to the training ground and work on the things that we need to work on, finishing being one of them, and next week we can put away our chances.”
The Mariners have conceded only eight goals this season, the equal-lowest tally of any team in the A-League.
Goodwin said it was a positive sign that the Jets were still able to create goal-scoring opportunities against such a well-structured opponent.
“They are one of the best defences in the league, they-re very strong and have been consistently strong over the past few seasons,” he said.
“I felt that we probably had more clear-cut chances than them to score, but we just couldn-t put them away.”
