In this week-s edition of Jets Insider, Young Socceroo Andrew Hoole answered questions submitted by the Club-s Members and supporters.
Hoole was quizzed on topics including his preferred position, his ambitions for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season and who he thinks will win this weekend-s NBN State League Final.
@soccer_joel asks via Twitter: Where do you rather play, further forward like for the Young Socceroos or at fullback for the Jets?
Andrew Hoole (AH): I probably feel a little bit more comfortable playing higher up the park, but at the end of the day I-m happy just as long as I get the chance to play and contribute to the team.
I played in both positions a fair bit so it-s just a matter of trying to adapt and do my best in whichever role I-m asked to play.
Mitch Faulkner asks via email: Who will win the NBN State League Grand Final?
AH: I think Broadmeadow Magic will win and I think the score will be 3-1 with Peter Haynes scoring a double and Rhys Tippet getting the other one.
Mark Porter asks via email: How do you sum up the past 12 months of your football career?
AH: The last 12 or so months have gone really, really quickly, but I-ve enjoyed every moment of it. Making my Jets debut as well as going to the FIFA U-20 World Cup were probably the two highlights for me and I-m very grateful for both of those experiences.
Hopefully there are more good times ahead for me and as long as I keep working hard I think there should be.
Beau Ewing asks via email: Does getting a taste of the A-League last season make you hungrier to nail down a spot and get regular game time this season?
AH: Towards the end of last season I came in and started three games and came off the bench in five others.
Getting the chance to play in those matches has definitely made me even more eager to start more games and play well for the Jets this season.
Kelly Roache asks via email: What do you think are the key things a wide player needs in their game?
AH: I think a good positional sense is really important in terms of knowing where to be in relation to the ball. Obviously it helps to have pace so you can take players on and good delivery with your crosses is crucial as well.
Olivia Paul asks via email: Are you confident about our chances this season? What do you think the Jets need to do to make finals?
AH: I think during the pre-season so far, every session I-ve been involved in has been at a high intensity and everyone is working hard.
As long as we maintain that until the start of the season, I think it will put us in a good position to have a big season.
To make the finals, I think we just need to focus on one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves. If we can perform consistently, hopefully we should be in a good position at the end of the season.
Liam Olsen asks via email: What were the biggest things you learned from going to the U20 World Cup with the Young Socceroos and being in camp with the Socceroos?
AH: I think just the mental aspect of football and how at that level you need to be switched on during every minute of every session and every minute of every game.
At that level if you switch off for even a little bit, there-s a fair chance you-ll get punished.
Ray Jones asks via email: Did you have a chance to talk to Holger Osieck much while you were in camp with the Socceroos and if so did he give you any advice?
AH: I don-t really speak to Holger a whole lot, but when I got injured prior to the tournament in Korea we had a bit of a chat. He told me just to focus on getting my injury right and having a good season in the A-League.
Rachel Beckinsale asks via email: What does it mean to you to be able to play in the A-League for you local Club?
AH: Even before I signed with the Jets, playing for this Club was always something I aspired to do. I think being able to live so close to home has helped me adjust to playing in the A-League.
To be able to play in front of the Newcastle Members and supporters as well as all my family and friends is a big, big honour.
Brent James asks via email: Are there any players you look up to and try to base your game on?
AH: I like watching guys like Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo who are both very direct and like cut inside and take players on.
Ryan Potter asks via email: What do you like to get up to away from football?
AH: I just hang out with friends, try to relax and take my mind off football. I think it-s important to be able to have some downtime to make sure there-s a balance in your life.
