Craig Deans says the Jets playing squad are working hard in the build-up to Wednesday’s game against the NBN Select team.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets assistant coach Craig Deans says the Jets playing squad are continuing to work hard to build their fitness base following an intense conditioning session at Ray Watt Oval on Tuesday morning.
Deans said the coaching staff are looking to put as much work into the players- legs as possible to see how they perform under fatigue in their trial match against the NBN State League Select at Adamstown Oval on Wednesday night.
“We-re trying to replicate what we did down in Canberra where we overloaded them prior to the game,” he said.
“It didn-t have any effects on them during the game down there and they played with a good level of intensity in that match.”
Deans said they would once again be looking share playing time throughout the majority of the Jets squad.
“It-s a good opportunity to monitor the loads of the players and make sure we-re still improving the loads each week as we get towards the start of the season,” he explained.
“It-s probably the last time we-ll look closely at the minutes each individual is getting before focusing on playing against the A-League opposition we-ve got coming up.”
The Jets are nearing the end of the most recent six-week block of their pre-season schedule and Deans said the Club-s preparations for the 2012/13 A-League season are on track.
“If you ask the players I think they would tell you that they are comfortable with where they are at physically and also in terms of understanding the type of game we want to play,” he said.
