Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond was disappointed to not ‘get something- out of Saturday night-s game against the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
The Jets conceded a first half penalty goal but the coach was pleased with the defensive effort and the second half performance in the 1-0 loss.
“A positive thing for us was we didn-t concede a goal in the field of play, it was from a penalty, and that is a real positive for us,” van Egmond said.
“We defended well in the first half and that was a tactic to not give space in behind or in the wide area, to make it difficult for them.
“We countered early on and we probably should have gotten something out of it but unfortunately that didn-t happen.
“Then in the second half we threw caution to the wind and played some real good football, and I think we were unlucky to not get something out of it but you have to make your own luck.”
The Jets have been on the road four out of the last five games, and whilst they take no points home after Saturday night-s result, they remain in the top four.
“We just have to keep working hard, get on the training field, work hard again, and keep eliminating our errors,” the coach added.
Next Saturday night the Jets return home and host the Central Coast Mariners, who are sitting on top of the ladder, for the second F3 Derby of the season.
