Andrew Hoole says the Jets will take confidence into Saturday’s F3 Derby clash with the Central Coast Mariners.
Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets winger Andrew Hoole says the Jets will take confidence into Saturday-s F3 Derby clash with the Central Coast Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium after picking up three wins in their last four matches.
The Jets- scalps in the past four weeks include the Hyundai A-League-s top two sides, Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers, as well as arguably the form team of the competition, Melbourne Heart.
“The confidence is right up there, we-ve won three out of our last four, so we-re doing really well at the moment and we-ve just got to keep that form going into the last five games,” Hoole said.
“This weekend obviously means more (than your average game), it-s a Derby and we-ll be going into the game looking to put a great performance in for our Members and the Club.
“All the boys are sticking together and really looking forward to the game against the Mariners this weekend.”
The Mariners are coming fresh off a 2-1 win over Japanese Champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the Asian Champions League on Tuesday night.
Hoole said he hoped the mid-week fixture would leave the Central Coast players feeling fatigued come Saturday.
“They-ve obviously played a few games in the last couple of weeks, so hopefully we can catch them when they-re a bit more tired then usual,” Hoole said.
“We went down there last time and didn-t get the result we were looking for from our point of view, so we definitely want to rectify that this time.”
Hoole-s performance was one of the few positive stories to come out of the Jets- 3-0 loss the last time they faced the Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium in Round 16.
“That-s in the past now and I-ve got to look forward to this weekend-s game, but if I get a chance to play again I-ll try to do my best like I did that day.
“In terms of my game, I can do a little bit better defensively and also going forward as well.
“I-d like to score a few more goals, because I obviously haven-t scored one yet, but as long as I-m contributing, it-s not too bad.”
