The Newcastle Jets have today bolstered their squad for the next two seasons of the Hyundai A-League by signing New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder initially burst onto the Hyundai A-League scene during the 2005/06 season when he joined the New Zealand Knights, scoring four goals in nine starts, his first coming in the form of a brace against the Jets in a match at North Harbour Stadium on 4 November, 2005.
One of the shining lights in an otherwise bleak season for the Kiwis, Brockie then moved on to the reigning Champions Sydney FC but was eventually granted a mutually agreed upon release after the completion of the 2006/07 season.
A return to the Hyundai A-League came last season through a fine stint at expansion club North Queensland Fury, where Brockie displayed the dynamism and electric pace that has made him a constant attacking threat since his professional debut.
Unfortunately, however, the talented All White had his comeback season prematurely cut-short after sustaining a broken leg whilst playing for the Fury against the Brisbane Roar in January this year, although Brockie is still hopeful of taking his place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June.
Today, Jets CEO John Tsatsimas welcomed the Nelson-born product to the club.
“Jeremy is obviously a very talented young player and we-re delighted to have him join us from next season,” he said.
“The coaching staff certainly believes that he brings a sense of energy and enthusiasm to the pitch which complements the football style and philosophy implemented by Branko Culina and his staff.”
“It-s been widely documented that our player retention drive was a successful one, and with the vast majority of the squad from our last campaign having committed their future to the club, the focus has somewhat shifted to bringing in quality players to enhance that established playing roster.”
“Certainly Jeremy fits that bill and we look forward to having him join us in Newcastle once the squad resumes training in May,” Mr. Tsatsimas concluded.
